BoviBank AS is a young company born from a long Norwegian tradition of dairy cattle breeding. The owners of BoviBank are the dairy cooperative TINE and the dairy cattle breeding association Geno.
Through the establishment of BoviBank in 2002, we aim to facilitate innovation and business development based on analysis of dairy herd and cattle breeding data. To reach our goals, BoviBank will cooperate with the best public and private research institutions within the field.
Long tradition
BoviBank builds on more than 30 years of systematic collection of phenotypic and health records through the Norwegian Dairy Herd Recording System (NDHRS) as well as genetic and daughter performance data from breeding of the Norwegian Red (NRF) dairy breed. Altogether, genotypic, phenotypic and pedigree information from more than 8 cattle generations is at our disposal - this represents data on more than 8 million individuals (both cows and bulls).
Unique information
Substantial work has been invested in organising, developing, running, maintaining and constantly improving the recording system over the years. Establishing a data bank with similar complexity today would require substantial investments and would take decades to accomplish; a task of enormous complexity.
The data recording and collection of biological material over the years has fully relied on, and still relies on, the collaboration of Norwegian dairy farmers. The establishment of BoviBank is thus a testament to the commitment, quality and professionality of Norwegian dairy farmers. BoviBank highly appreciates and could not exist without their hard work and enthusiasm.
