SpermVital doubles pregnancy rate of Holstein repeat breeders
In a Dutch field test of the SpermVital technology, more than 400 repeat breeders (Holstein cows) were inseminated. The SpermVital group achieved a pregnancy rate (49 %) double that of the control group (25 %) – a significant improvement!
Geno Global’s partner in the Netherlands, Xsires (www.xsires.com) performed the study during the summer of 2010 in cooperation with students Freek Beernink and Walter Kock from Christelijke Agrarische Hogeschool (CAH) in Dronten.
Thirty herds were monitored over a three month period, and all cows that returned to oestrus in these herds during this period (failed to fall pregnant) were randomly inseminated once with either ordinary Holstein semen or SpermVital semen (from the NRF bull 252NR10177 Braut). In total, 231 inseminations were performed with SpermVital semen and 204 with ordinary Holstein semen.
Herd fertility doubled with SpermVital !
In line with results from trials in Germany (see previous news article), the SpermVital group performed significantly better than the control group. This is particularly impressive considering the trial was carried out during the summer months with lower fertility. The difference in pregnancy rates was even bigger for 4th service inseminations - 59% for SpermVital versus 21% for the controls. For Dutch herd owners, the use of SpermVital clearly translates to reduced insemination costs, improved herd fertility and less replacement.
